Goals
This project is designed to help you gain
more familiarity with spreadsheets.
Tasks
Create a google spreadsheet for a hypothetical vacation.
Imagine you are planning a one week vacation
trip anywhere in the world.
Perform research and create
a detailed spreadsheet about your potential trip.
Assuming you have a budget of $3000, perform the following research:
- When will you go?
Time of year often determines cost.
Assume some specific week in the summer.
Airfare is usually cheaper on Tuesdays!
- Where will you go?
Your destination can be anywhere in the world,
or a series of connected locations.
Assume your starting and returning destination
is either Albion or your hometown.
Examples vacation locations include:
- Washington, DC
- A drive around the great lakes.
- Machu Picchu, Peru
- Hawaii
- Ayers Rock, Australia
- Capetown, South Africa
- Istanbul, Turkey
- London, England
- How will you get there?
Consider a site like
rome2rio.com
for travel options.
Use a travel site to determine a reasonable transportation costs
such as airfare or train tickets.
If driving (or renting a car) assume $0.50 per mile for a cost.
Assume a taxi or uber will be $3 per mile.
Assume a bus or subway will be $2 per trip.
- Where will you stay?
- Do you need a visa?
- What will you do?
Find at least ten things to see and do at your destination
or along the way.
Organization
Your spreadsheet will have the following three worksheets:
- Itinerary (day by day), with columns for
- Date
- Day of week
- Location
- Main activities
- List of attractions, with columns for
- attraction
- location/address
- cost
- URL
- hours
- budget, with columns for
- travel
- lodging
- meals
- entertainment
Use formulas for computing sums where possible.
Uses color (text or background) and text attributes (bold, italics, font, etc) to help the viewer.
Deliverables
Once your sheet is complete,
share your spreadsheet with me.
